"I made a British film using a Bollywood narrative style and most people seem to have missed that point," she says dismissively. She points out that Bride has grossed Rs 16 crore in its opening weekend in UK. "That''s a first of sorts," she says. "But the reviews have been largely positive in UK. It''s only in India that there seems to be some kind of pleasure being derived out of ripping the film. But from all the reactions I''ve got, there is no other way I would have made this film."

Aishwarya Rai too has come in for criticism on homeground. "That''s unfair," retaliates Chadha. "So much has been made out of her performance and clothes in the Indian media. I am glad that, at least in UK, they have been able to judge her on merit." Meanwhile, Chadha is all set to fly to the US, where Miramax has picked up the film for a wider release.
